Creating the Perfect Coastal Guest Bedroom Getaway

March 11, 2021

Whether you host an Airbnb or just want to make your family and friends feel welcome, a well appointed guest room is a must. Luxe bedding (that doesn’t have to break the bank) and thoughtful touches will create the “stay awhile” vibe you are looking for.

For this guest space, my client wanted a light, bright, modern farmhouse with an overall coastal feel to match the home’s San Diego locale. Starting with walls and flooring that were to remain, key elements were a bed, rug, nightstands, a dresser and art & decor. The room was a standard 10×10 with mirrored closet door. In order to create more visual space and functionality, we removed the closet doors to create a niche for the dresser and the opportunity to hang something above that could stretch the view from the bed. Wood floors had us starting with a rug…so guests feet hit the floor and felt warmth and texture with a light color to keep the room bright.

Since the space is on the smaller side, we opted for a headboard only to keep the foot of the bed clear for moving about the room. This is important to remember, so you don’t overwhelm your space with height or length of furnishings that will leave your space feeling crowded. The bedding mixed coastal colors with coastal and modern farmhouse lines. We chose to purchase a more expensive duvet, and supply the coverlet and sheets more affordably. Always remember to splurge and save where it makes the most sense!

With the final touches going in soon on this dream guest getaway, I’m on to planning the next one…will it be yours? To read more about Design Boards including cost, take a look at my services by clicking here. Tap here to get started on a design board and bring your vision to life!
